Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo

I freaking loved this drama! I’m also mentally kicking myself for not having watched this sooner! This drama stars Kim Bok Joo (Lee Sung Kyung), an up-and-coming weightlifting star, and Jung Joon Hyun (Nam Joo Hyuk), a competitive swimmer struggling to break his disqualification streak, who were once childhood friends and reunite once again at their athletic college. But what will happen when Jung Joon Hyun starts developing feelings for Kim Bok Joo, but she’s in love with his older brother??

This drama is seriously so freaking adorable!! *squeal!* Hands down, one of the best dramas I’ve ever seen! It’s a romantic comedy with lots of cute, heartwarming moments and first loves, but it also touches on issues such as depression, trauma and eating disorders and how the characters work towards overcoming them. First of all, Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk have the most natural chemistry together and I’m so happy that they’re dating in real life! Relationship goals!!

I also think I’m just Lee Sung Kyung biased at this point. This girl is hilarious and has such a wide range of expressions! She can go from being a squishy to a psycho bitch in 0.2 seconds! (Please refer to Cheese in the Trap for more examples).

Nam Joo Hyuk also pleasantly surprised me and has created a name for himself in male lead territory. The supporting characters in this drama were also amazing! Lee Sun Ok (Lee Joo Young), Jung Nan Hee (Cho Hye Jung) and Jo Tae Kwon (Ji Il Joo) added so much comedic relief to the drama, and Tae Kwon was such a chismoso (a.k.a. a gossip)! They were a fun bunch and definitely make you want to have friends like them.

The story line for this drama was well thought out, too. It’s honestly one of the few dramas (that I’ve watched, at least) in which the story line has flowed seamlessly from beginning to end. It never encountered a boring rut but instead always left me wanting more. It’s rare for me to completely love a drama from beginning to end, but this drama deserves it!

Kim Bok Joo, Swag~
